VND1.2 billion presented to Coast Guard and Fisheries Resources Surveillance Department

Nhan Dan Online – The Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG) and the Department of Fisheries Resources Surveillance (DFRS) received VND1.2 billion (US$56,400) for their positive contributions to protecting Vietnamese fishermen and safeguarding the country’s sovereignty over its seas.

The money, provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN), was presented to the forces in Hanoi on May 12.

Addressing the event, Chairwoman of the MOFA Trade Union Tao Thi Thanh Huong said that the ministry’s staff deeply appreciates and always places trust in those who are working on the front line to protect the country’s seas.

She noted with pride that, although some comrades were attacked and injured by Chinese ships while on duty, they still promoted their courage and resilience in preventing China’s illegal moves.

PVN Deputy General Director Nguyen Quoc Thap stressed that the whole country always acknowledge contributions made by the two forces, particularly in recent days, since China’s placement of its oil drilling rig, Haiyang Shiyou 981, within Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf.

Major General Hoang Van Dong of the VCG and DFRS Deputy Director Nguyen Van Trung expressed their thanks for the support given by all Vietnamese people at home and abroad to their forces in struggle against China’s violations of Vietnam 's sovereign rights and jurisdiction over its exclusive economic zone and continental shelf.

They reaffirmed the forces’ determination to overcome any difficulty and danger to protect the country’s sea area in response to the good sentiments and trust of the Party, State and people.
