The conference was managers, experts and scientists from the National Remote Sensing Department; the Authority of Radio Frequency Directorate; the Vietnam Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change; the Vietnam Institute of Geodesy and Cartography; the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology; the Hanoi University of Science and Technology; the Department Of Survey, Mapping and Geographic Information; experts from Airbus Defence and Space group (ADS), which is a contractor for designing, manufacturing, and launching VNREDSat-1 satellites; and leaders of units and research institutes inside and outside the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
The conference included scientific reports focusing on highlighting the efficiency of operation, exploitation and application of the VNREDSat-1 system, the contributions of VNREDSat-1 in research and application of space science and technology.
At the conference, scientific reports indicated that Vietnam's application of Earth observation satellites has made rapid development in recent times thanks to the VNREDSat-1 satellite.
The participants of the workshop discussed and contributed many useful ideas for research and application of space science and technology. They especially emphasised the need to continue deploying Earth observation satellite systems with high resolution and effective coverage and re-shooting frequency.
VNREDSat-1 satellite is the result of effective cooperation of scientists from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and satellite manufacturing companies of France.
The VNREDSat-1 also actively contributes to disaster prevention and reduction efforts in the ASEAN region and around the world such as actively participating in activities of Sentinel Asia, UNESCAP, and APRSAF.
The success of the VNREDSat-1 Project contributes significantly to the successful implementation of Vietnam’s "Strategy for research and application of space technology until 2020", which was approved by the Government in 2006.
