Satellite images of Hanoi, Ha Giang province and Phu Quoc Island were transmitted to a reception station of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment at 11h00 on May 9, according to Bui Trong Tuyen, Deputy Head of the Space Technology Institute.
Despite the cloudy sky, these initial images indicate that VNREDSat-1 and the ground station are working properly, said space scientists.
The National Remote Sensing Centre can now contact VNREDSat-1 two to four times a day through a reception and transmission station in Hoa Lac.
Vietnamese and French experts are currently working together to analyse and process the raw satellite images, and monitor and assess the satellite’s performance.
VNREDSat-1 was launched into orbit aboard a Vega rocket on May 7 from the Kourou space centre in French Guiana. It is Vietnam’s third satellite in space and its first Earth observation satellite.
