The coal-fired plant will be built on an area of 60 hectares in Dan Thanh commune, according to the build-operate-transfer (BOT) format. It features two turbines with a total capacity of 1,200 megawatts.
Duyen Hai 2 is among the key facilities planned for development to ensure power supply for southern Vietnam, and is slated to become operational by 2020.
The facility is one of the four power plants to be developed at the Duyen Hai Power Centre in Tra Vinh, which will have a combined capacity of over 4,300 megawatts once in operation.
The Duyen Hai 1 plant has been completed and connected to the national grid, while Duyen Hai 3 is conducting a trial run with its turbine no. 1, with its remaining turbine currently under construction.
The Duyen Hai Power Centre covers nearly 879 hectares in Duyen Hai town with a total investment of over US$5 billion.
