The workshop provided an opportunity for experts and leaders of state agencies to analyse the profound impacts, opportunities, and risks without precedent associated with the application of AI.

The event also aimed to identify timely and appropriate policy responses, enabling Viet Nam to advance AI capacity, create a Vietnamese-language AI model, and build a sustainable AI environment that benefits the nation, communities, and society as a whole.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang emphasised that the event reflected the attention, commitment, responsibility of managers, experts, scientists, and businesses in addressing the impacts, challenges, and policy responses to the boundless power of AI.

In his keynote address, HCMA Director Nguyen Xuan Thang noted that the development of AI in Viet Nam remains limited, despite some positive achievements.

Viet Nam currently faces a shortage of AI specialists, while training programmes have not yet met the demand for AI education sought by businesses and state agencies.

In addition, the infrastructure supporting AI research and development in Viet Nam remains incomplete.

Thang also highlighted the lack of a clear and consistent legal framework as a challenge to AI development in the country.

Meanwhile, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung stated that the advantage of Vietnamese enterprises lies in their deep understanding of the country’s context, language, and culture, as well as their ownership of sector-specific data for developing specialised applications.

He further noted that AI represents a major opportunity for Viet Nam to become a developed, high-income country. Therefore, it is essential to seize this opportunity and mobilise all resources to boost labour productivity, enhance national competitiveness, and strengthen governance capacity.

Concluding the workshop, Deputy Defence Minister Le Huy Vinh highly valued the presentations and noted that the organising committee would incorporate the opinions into documents for submission to the 14th National Party Congress.
