The Government of Ireland has announced funding of 1.4 million EUR to strengthen climate resilience and empower ethnic minority women in 13 communes across Tuyen Quang, Quang Tri, and Phu Tho provinces.
The renewed funding was unveiled at a meeting in Phu Tho Province on November 26. It supports the programme “Resilience First: Building Ready Communities, Schools, and Women for a Resilient Future”, implemented in collaboration with Plan International Viet Nam, CARE International in Viet Nam, and the Centre for Research on Initiatives of Community Development (RIC).
The programme includes activities such as repairing and constructing local schools, building capacity for community-based disaster risk management, and promoting women’s economic empowerment through sustainable, low-emission, climate-resilient livelihoods and green ventures.
Announcing the funding, the Ambassador of Ireland to Viet Nam, Deirdre Ní Fhallúin, highlighted the importance of locally-led climate action, noting that success stories in Phu Tho, Quang Tri, and Tuyen Quang demonstrate its critical role.
“Ireland, through its Embassy in Ha Noi, is proud to continue supporting the Resilience First programme and its partners. This 1.4 million EUR commitment reflects our dedication to safeguarding communities against climate change and empowering ethnic minority women as leaders in their own development,” she affirmed.
