Associations of Vietnam’s Universities and Colleges established

The founding of the Association of Vietnam’s Universities and Colleges (AVUC) is an important step in carrying out comprehensive reform in the country’s education and training.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam made the statement at the AVUC congress held in Hanoi on December 20 to announce its establishment.

Deputy PM Dam stressed that, as human resource are key to every nation’s development, it is important for Vietnam to build high-quality human resources to narrow the disparity with developed countries. The task requires the involvement of many ministries, in which the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) should serve as the vanguard, he said.

He asked the VAUC to be active in conducting research and proposing policies to develop Vietnam’s universities and colleges system.

MoET Minister Pham Vu Luan pledged that the Minister would closely co-ordinate with the association to overcome difficulties in reforming the education sector together and fulfil common targets in the work.

Founded according to a decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the organisation and operation of the AVUC are aligned with regulations approved by the Ministry and under the management of the MoET as well as other relevant ministries and sectors.

The congressed appointed an 148-member executive board with Doctor Tran Hong Quan, former MoET Minister, being elected as Chairman.

According to newly-elected Chairman Tran Hong Quan, the VAUC is established to create a venue, a forum and a common house for universities, colleges and educators nationwide to discuss education. It will also serve as a consultant for the Party and State on issues relating to tertiary and college education.

As of the yesterday’s congress, More than 340 universities and colleges throughout the countries have been registered as VAUC members.
