This year’s event, the first of its kind, was initiated by the Vo Viet Chung Company and the Vietnam Environment Protection Fund under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. It was intended to promote the protection of marine environment and to call for people to join hands to preserve Vietnam’s seas and islands and promote marine tourism.
On the final night, the organising board donated VND400 million collected from an auction at the event to the fund ‘Joining hands to protect Vietnam’s sovereignty in the East Sea’, which was launched by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper. The Binh Thuan Tourism Association also presented VND100 million to the fund.
Contestants read a message together calling for actions to support Vietnam Government to defend its sovereignty in the East Sea and asking China to immediately withdraw its illegal Haiyang Shiyou-981 oil rig and ships off Vietnam’s waters.
With a message on sea and island sovereignty and marine environment protection, during the contest’s final round, the contestants participated in meaningful activities to collect garbage on beaches, go biking for the environment, visit and present gifts to fishermen in Ham Tien, and provide information on environmental protection to pupils in Mui Ne 1 Elementary School.
