Forum seeks initiatives for digital economy and digital society development in Vietnam

The first National Forum for Digital Economy and Digital Society Development was held in the northern province of Nam Dinh on September 14.

The event, held jointly by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission, and the Nam Dinh Provincial People's Committee, aimed to mobilise initiatives to contribute to the development roadmap of the digital economy and digital society in Vietnam.

Speaking at the forum, Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission Tran Tuan Anh, expressed his hope that this forum will become an annual event and create profound changes in both awareness and action, to mobilise comprehensive participation of people, business community and state agencies.

He assessed that the contribution of the digital economy to GDP is increasing. According to estimates and reports of the Ministry of Information and Communications, the proportion of the digital economy in GDP has increased from 11.91% in 2021 to 14.26% in 2022 and reached about 14.96%, in the first 6 months of 2023.

At the Forum, speakers discussed a wide range of issues related to developing innovation to become a driving force in building the digital economy; developing the digital technology industry to become a pervasive foundation industry to help promote the digital economy and digital society for all people; data and artificial intelligence, serving the development of the digital economy and digital society.
