The event was attended by Politburo Member Nguyen Xuan Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council.
Nguyen Du, courtesy name To Nhu and pen name Thanh Hien, was born in Bich Cau Ward of the imperial capital city of Thang Long (now Ha Noi) in 1765. He hailed from the renowned Nguyen Tien Dien family of Ha Tinh Province. The national great poet and world cultural celebrity made significant contributions to the country's literary treasure, especially with the masterpiece titled “Truyen Kieu” (The Tale of Kieu).
Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Xuan Thang emphasised that through The Tale of Kieu, Nguyen Du elevated the Vietnamese language and national poetry to the pinnacle of artistic perfection. The Tale of Kieu has become a unique cultural phenomenon, deeply embedded in spiritual life, everyday language, customs, and moral values, and continues to live on in the consciousness of the Vietnamese people.
Through The Tale of Kieu, he raised globally resonant issues: human rights, human dignity, the status of women, condemnation of social injustice, and the affirmation of the aspiration to live with dignity.
Expressing his delight at witnessing Ha Tinh’s strong renewal— economic growth, cultural and social progress, firm national defence and security, and a strengthened political system — Politburo Member Nguyen Xuan Thang called on the province to continue efforts to further embed Nguyen Du’s heritage values into the spiritual life of the people, making them a driving force for character building and inspiring the younger generation.
He urged Ha Tinh to ignite resilience, continue the tradition of learning and creativity, turn challenges into advantages, and create breakthrough transformative changes to build an increasingly prosperous, civilised, and beautiful homeland.
The special artistic programme themed “Great Poet Nguyen Du – The Eternal Light of Compassion” vividly portrayed his life, career and intellectual legacy through four chapters. The programme harmoniously combined music, dance and theatrical performance, effectively conveying the stature and immense value of Nguyen Du.
Earlier, Politburo Member Nguyen Xuan Thang offered incense and laid flowers at the tomb and memorial site dedicated to Great Poet Nguyen Du in Tien Dien Commune, and visited and presented gifts to several policy beneficiary families in the locality (Ha Tinh Province).
