Featuring ten lanes across a width of 66 metres and built for 1,066 billion VND (41 million USD), Do Muoi Street runs about 1.6 kilometres from the northern end of Hoang Van Thu Street to the Viet Nam-Singapore Industrial Park.

It is one of the key roads linking Hai Phong’s old urban core with its new political-administrative centre in Thuy Nguyen.

At the ceremony on May 13, Hai Phong Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Tho said the street is named Do Muoi to commemorate an event in 1955 when the former Party leader was appointed chairman of the military-political committee of the newly liberated city.

Under his leadership, public utility services and economic activities were quickly restored and people’s lives stabilised, while sabotage plots of the French and reactionary forces were foiled.

Speaking at the naming event, Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, daughter of General Secretary Do Muoi, expressed her pride when a beautiful street in Hai Phong’s new political centre was named after her father.

She added that it is not only a recognition of his contributions to the country but also a source of motivation and pride for her family.
