The event was among special activities marking the 70th anniversary of Hai Phong’s Liberation Day (May 13, 1955 –2025) — celebrating the heroic city. It is expected to open a new direction for the railway and tourism sectors of the port city.

Hai Phong Railway Station is located at Km101+750 on the Ha Noi – Hai Phong railway line. Built in 1902, the station is one of the oldest and most historically significant railway terminals in Viet Nam.
One of its most memorable historical milestones occurred on October 21, 1946, when a special train departed the station to bring President Ho Chi Minh back to Ha Noi following his participation in the Fontainebleau Conference in France.

Since then, Hai Phong Railway Station has served not only as a transport hub but also as a structure of notable historical, cultural and artistic value — a reflection of the formation and development of the port city.

Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Hai Phong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated that upgrading Hai Phong Station to a tourist destination not only opens new opportunities for tourism development, but also enhances the cultural heritage value of the railway sector while creating more jobs and improving the livelihoods of local people.
In addition to preserving its distinctive French colonial architecture, the Viet Nam Railways Corporation has worked on landscaping and service improvements and has introduced the high-quality train named the Red Flamboyant that symbolises Hai Phong.

The train features luxurious interiors and modern amenities to meet the increasing demands of passengers. The carriages are equipped with semi-automatic doors, LED screens, free Wi-Fi, and imagery representing the port city.

A particular highlight of the train is its VIP carriage with 34 seats, styled in an Indochine design, offering an exclusive travel experience.
Additionally, the standard carriages with 56 seats are fitted with 180-degree swivel chairs, eliminating the discomfort of travelling backwards.

Hoang Gia Khanh, General Director of the Viet Nam Railways Corporation, shared that the Ha Noi – Hai Phong route currently operates four return trips daily, increasing to six on weekends and during holidays to serve local residents and tourists.
