Hung Yen is a leading longan-growing province, with nearly 6,000 hectares under cultivation and annual output ranging from 35,000 to 50,000 tonnes of fruit.
The province’s longan output this year is projected to reach 35,000 tonnes.
The fruit is extensively cultivated, with major growing areas including Tan Hung, Hong Chau, Son Nam, Tien Lu, Khoai Chau, and Trieu Viet Vuong.
Thousands of households in Hung Yen currently cultivate longans in accordance with VietGAP standards.
Hung Yen longans are primarily sold fresh in the domestic market, while a portion is processed into dried longan for domestic consumption and export.
At the event, longan-growing cooperatives and orchard owners presented delegates and businesses with high-quality longan varieties from Hung Yen. Businesses, cooperatives, and orchard owners also deliberated on domestic and international production and distribution, particularly the application of technical advances in intensive cultivation and longan production in accordance with VietGAP standards to improve yields and fruit quality; promotion of the brand and geographical indications of longan-growing areas in Hung Yen; and distribution of longans through supermarket systems nationwide.
Hung Yen Province formally announced the decision of the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and awarded certificates recognising the “Knowledge of growing and processing Hung Yen Longan” as part of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List to the communes and wards of Hong Chau, Tan Hung, Son Nam, Tien Lu, Khoai Chau, and Trieu Viet Vuong.
On the occasion, several businesses executed memoranda of understanding on the supply and distribution of longans with longan-growing cooperatives and major orchards in Hung Yen Province.
