In his opening speech, deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education Vu Ngoc Hoang welcomed writers and translators, from both at home and abroad, to the conference – an event of peace, contributing to spreading human values from many countries and continents in the world.
Vietnamese literature, with abundant folklore, holds a crucial position in the country’s long-standing unique culture, and has been mixing with other world literature during the process of integration and development, said Hoang.
He hailed literature as a bridge improving Vietnam’s knowledge of other nations’ cultures while facilitating other countries’ understanding of and love for Vietnamese culture, landscapes and people.
The event is an ideal platform for Vietnam to introduce its prolific and diverse literature to international friends, hence joining other world literature to build a peaceful culture highlighting literary activities toward ‘truth, goodness and beauty’, Hoang noted.
The conference, themed ‘Vietnamese literature: a brilliant symbol of people’s desire for independence, freedom and happiness’, remains one of the three large literary events taking place in Vietnam, from March 1 to 7, contributing to advertising the outstanding achievements and unique values of Vietnamese literature to international friends.
The event also facilitates Vietnamese literature’s access to international translators, researchers and publishers, while enabling Vietnamese writers to boost exchanges and share experience with international partners serving the cause of building and developing Vietnamese literature in the new situation.
