Joining hands to preserve, promote, and spread the value of the Vietnamese language

The Viet Nam Cultural Heritage Preservation Support Fund held a ceremony at the Temple of Literature in Ha Noi on July 8 to announce the establishment of the Vietnamese Language Cultural Heritage Club and introduced its executive committee, which includes respected and dedicated managers, cultural experts, diplomats, and other professionals committed to preserving cultural heritage.

Leaders, intellectuals, and artists attend the ceremony.

The event marks the beginning of a broader approach to heritage preservation, extending beyond historical sites and tangible heritage to include intangible cultural values such as language, writing, knowledge, and the cultural identity of Viet Nam.

The Vietnamese Language Cultural Heritage Club will serve as a network connecting individuals and organisations both in Viet Nam and abroad to work together in preserving the Vietnamese language. It will also contribute to promoting Vietnamese culture and strengthening international exchange through language.

In the context of international integration, the Vietnamese language is not only a means of communication but also a repository of the nation's history, knowledge, identity, and cultural memory. The Vietnamese Language Cultural Heritage Club under the Viet Nam Cultural Heritage Preservation Support Fund operates on a voluntary and non-profit basis and welcomes all individuals and organisations that share the common goal of preserving and promoting the value of the Vietnamese language.

Speaking at the event, Assoc Prof, Dr Do Van Tru, Chairman of the Viet Nam Cultural Heritage Association, emphasised: "The Vietnamese language is the foundation of our national identity and the bond that connects millions of Vietnamese people around the world. The establishment of the Vietnamese Language Cultural Heritage Club is the first step in bringing together people who share a love for the Vietnamese language to preserve, promote, and spread it as a living cultural heritage, helping Vietnamese culture integrate into and shine on the international stage."

According to journalist Do Thi Minh Ngoc, Standing Deputy Head of the Vietnamese Language Cultural Heritage Club, preserving, and promoting the Vietnamese language is no longer solely the responsibility of the education sector, linguists, or government agencies, but a shared responsibility of society as a whole.

The organising committee announced that, immediately following its establishment, the club will launch a number of key programmes, including the organising the Vietnamese Language Heritage Festival and annual events honouring the Vietnamese language; holding forums, conferences, and seminars on preserving and promoting the language in the context of international integration; and working with schools, research institutes, and educational and cultural organisations both in Viet Nam and abroad to develop Vietnamese language education programmes.

In addition, the club will organise competitions, cultural and artistic exchange programmes, and heritage experiences for young people and the international community. It also aims to establish member clubs, local branches, and representative networks across different regions while expanding connections with overseas Vietnamese communities.

With clear objectives and a spirit of encouraging creativity while valuing every contribution, the Vietnamese Language Cultural Heritage Club brings together researchers, linguists, educators, cultural experts, teachers, artists, journalists, businesspeople, and individuals working in the fields of culture and education.

All Vietnamese citizens, both at home and abroad — from school pupils, university students, and young people to old people — as well as foreign nationals living, studying, and working in Viet Nam who wish to learn about the Vietnamese language and Vietnamese culture, are welcome to participate and contribute to this shared journey of connecting communities and preserving and promoting the value of the Vietnamese language, helping to further strengthen its position in the nation's cultural life and on the international stage.
