Many large corporations come to Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park

After having mechanisms and policies to remove obstacles in site clearance and capital, the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park currently has more than 700 hectares of clean land, with a relatively modern and synchronous technical infrastructure.

This is the basis for the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park to transition a strong breakthrough in investment attraction, scientific and technological development, towards the goal of developing high-tech key products.

To date, the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park has attracted 100 investment projects, of which there are 86 domestic projects (accounting for 86%) and 14 foreign investment projects (accounting for 14%). With a total registered investment capital of about 94.76 trillion VND, covering a total area of about 376 hectares.

There are projects supported by foreign governments and businesses, such as the Vietnam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology (V-KIST); the construction project of the National Innovation Centre (NIC); the Vietnam Space Centre Project; the Vietnam-Japan University Project; and the Vietnam-France University Project, among others.

Projects of large enterprises and corporations across the globe have also been present here, such as, two projects of Nidec Group (Japan) in the field of research, development, production and sales of products for high-performance thermal modules, and the project of Hanwha AeroSpace (the Republic of Korea), to manufacture parts and components for aircraft engines and industrial turbine gas engines.

Notably, there are also projects of large enterprises and corporations in Vietnam, as well as training, production and research facilities, such as the Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) with five projects; Vingroup with three projects; FPT Corporation with four projects; and the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) with two projects.

Investment projects at the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park have a relatively high rate of research and development, initially spreading and contributing to the economy in the past.

Most high-tech products produced in the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park have high added value, which have replaced imports and joined the world market, such as: marine radar with 4G and 5G; software solutions to meet the needs of large enterprises on the basis of Akaminds IoT, Akabot and Akachain; aircraft engine components and high-tech cutting tools in the aviation industry; substation integrated control protection systems; low and medium voltage electrical cabinets, with technology transferred from the world's leading electrical equipment manufacturers.

According to Deputy Head of the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park Management Board Tran Dac Trung, one of the future development orientations of the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, is to develop high-tech products, bearing the mark of national products, and key products of Hanoi.

Although it has not developed as expected, the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park has established important and fundamental components to achieve that goal. To date, FPT University has come into operation, Vietnam-France University and Van Lang University, are under construction. These are high-quality human resource training institutions, serving society in general and directly for the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park in particular. Research institutes and applied research centres are directly associated with the production development of enterprises, such as V-KIST Institute, the Vietnam Space Centre, the Vietnam Metrology Institute, and other testing centres.

The fact that foreign investors and large domestic enterprises have chosen the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park as their key investment area, will create a basis for the formation of key industries and products from here.

In addition, the operation of the Business Incubation Centre (under the Management Board of the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park), the construction of the National Innovation Centre (NIC), in addition to good infrastructure, will all play as high-tech incubators that promote innovation.

In order to develop high-tech products to become national key products, it is necessary to devise more specific mechanisms and policies, such as promulgating scientific and technological programmes, to develop key industrial products at the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park.

The Management Board of the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park needs to take charge of the implementation of the programme, in order to support research and development activities of key products and national products, in accordance with the value chain.

In addition, ministries, branches and localities should also prioritise the arrangement of development assistance programmes, and pilot scientific and technological programmes for the Management Board of Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, to manage and organise the implementation, as well as accelerate activities of forming technology and high-tech products, at the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park.
