According to Truong Duc Hung, Deputy General Director in charge of operations at Saigontourist Group and Head of Nguyen Hue Flower Street’s organising committee, despite numerous difficulties, thanks to the attention and unified direction of the city's leaders, Saigontourist Group and its companions still displayed their determination and efforts to maintain the Nguyen Hue Flower Street because this is considered a cultural beauty and an indispensable entertainment need of the city's people and tourists on the occasion of the Lunar New Year festival.
With the theme of “Hometown Spring - Warmth of Love”, this year’s flower street is divided into three segments, including: “Back to the Deep Forest - Green Nature”, “Spring of Love - Proud of Vietnam” and “Reaching out to the Big Sea - the Nation’s Reunion”. The 600m Nguyen Hue Flower Street will use many environmentally friendly and reusable materials such as metal, foam, rattan, bamboo, bricks, nets, knitting ropes... along with about 80 varieties of flowers, and nearly 97,000 pots and flower baskets of all kinds.
Unlike in previous years, the mascot of the Nguyen Hue Flower Street’s greeting gate will not be located in the central position, but has been moved to the sides, with the “Twin Tigers meet” sculpture, made from delicately cut stainless steel slices, showing the strong and proud qualities of the animal known as the “Lord of the Forest”.
The change in the layout of the greeting gate not only brings new features to the flower street, but also emphasises the behaviour of the tiger mascot, an animal that often lives and operates independently. On the flower street, the image of the “Lord of the Forest” measures 4.6m high and more than 10m long, with a harmonious combination of tempered glass, mica and moss, creating the effect of tigers’ strength.
One of the new features of the Nguyen Hue Flower Street is that the organisers will bring the “deep forest” to the city centre. In the central position with two welcome gates forming a triangle with five rows of 3-4m tall trees arranged in a zigzag pattern. The trees are positioned in increasing size from the outside to the inside, increasing the coverage, to create a shaded area of more than 250m2 below, just enough to reproduce the feeling of a near-real forest.
In addition, Saigontourist Group and creative groups have added many segments and areas to this year’s flower street, including grand scenes, miniatures depicting meaningful images, and contribution activities in the fight against by the COVID-19 epidemic. Although deployed in the direction of maximising efficiency, with the most economical cost, the Lunar New Year flower street will ensure strict requirements for art installation and decoration.
The Nguyen Hue Flower Street 2022 is the 19th of its kind made during the traditional Tet holiday in the centre of Ho Chi Minh City since 2004. The work is directed by the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City in co-ordiation with Saigontourist Group and the city's departments and agencies with the companionship of a number of businesses in Ho Chi Minh City.
It is expected that Nguyen Hue Flower Street will be open from 19:00 on January 29, 2022 until 17:00 on February 4, 2022 during the Lunar New Year holiday.
