The 50th anniversary ceremony of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification is a significant political event on a national scale. It is jointly organised by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and Ho Chi Minh City.
The national-level commemorative ceremony will take place at 6:30 am on April 30 along Le Duan Street, District 1, and several central streets in Ho Chi Minh City. The parade, overseen by the Ministry of National Defence, will include four ceremonial marching blocks, 36 military parade blocks, and 12 mass procession blocks. It is expected that Laos and Cambodia will also send parade contingents to participate in the celebration.
Providing information to the media on key activities, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy shared that from April 19 to 30, the city will host a wide range of culturally rich events across various cultural spaces for the public, including: the “Colours of City named after Uncle Ho” festival, featuring a 3D Mapping art performance on the façade of the City People's Committee headquarters, combining light, sound, and symphonic-choral music; a show involving 2,000 drones paired with artistic fireworks to illuminate the city’s skies; the cinematic exhibition “Echoes of the Great Spring Victory 1975” with 300 valuable archival photographs and community film screenings at the Nguyen Hue – Ngo Duc Ke stage; and a special art programme “Day of National Reunification” to be broadcast live nationwide from the Reunification Hall, District 1, on the evening of April 30.
The city will also collaborate with central ministries and agencies to organise several major performances, such as an open-air concert on April 20; the special concert “Symphony of Peace” in the evening of April 21 at the City Opera House; and the national television bridge “Forever Echoing the Triumph Song” (April 27) with Ho Chi Minh City as one of the main broadcast points.
A highlight of the programme is the expression of gratitude to 3,100 delegates who were cadres and soldiers directly involved in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign. The delegation will revisit historic sites and tour newly inaugurated infrastructure in the city.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang noted that this is an important event for Vietnam, with great significance for the international community. The ceremony will welcome 20 international delegations and more than 100 representatives of peace organisations, anti-war movements, and international friends who supported Vietnam, as well as representatives from over 20 international localities twinned with Ho Chi Minh City and many distinguished individuals who contributed to the anti-war movement.
Notably, the celebration will include a parade block of 120 exemplary overseas Vietnamese and over 100 delegates from 25 countries and territories attending the event. On this occasion, the overseas Vietnamese delegation, along with domestic representatives from intellectual, religious, and ethnic communities, will visit military forces and people on Truong Sa islands and the DK1 platforms; attend the “Vietnamese Use Vietnamese Goods” conference in Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa); visit historic sites, and pay tribute to Heroic Vietnamese Mothers and those who rendered services to the nation in Ho Chi Minh City.
