The message was delivered at the forum “The future of national science, technology, innovation and digital transformation”, held in Ha Noi as part of the exhibition “80 Years of Independence – Freedom – Happiness” celebrating Viet Nam’s National Day.
Minister Hung emphasised that over the past eight decades, science and technology have accompanied the nation through war, reconstruction, and integration. Today, in the era of artificial intelligence, big data, green energy, and the digital economy, knowledge and innovation have become the most important production resources.
Viet Nam’s “first renovation” in 1986 marked its transition to a socialist-oriented market economy, while the “second renovation,” he noted, lies in innovation and digital transformation – creating an ecosystem where businesses, scientists, citizens, and the state jointly generate value.
He called for collective commitment to mastering strategic technologies, accelerating nationwide digital transformation, and building a national innovation system closely linked to the needs of enterprises and society. “We must turn science, technology, innovation and digital transformation into a real strength for Viet Nam to move forward,” he stressed.
Deputy Minister Hoang Minh presented the forum’s central report titled “Science, technology, innovation and digital transformation – The core drivers of Viet Nam’s rapid, sustainable and resilient development.” The report, guided by the Politburo’s Resolution 57, identifies three pillars – science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation; two strategic goals – rapid, sustainable growth and enhanced competitiveness; and one aspiration – to make Viet NSam a high-income developed country.
The forum featured four sessions, focusing on strategic technologies, building a national start-up and innovation ecosystem, advancing digital infrastructure and digital society, and policy, human resources, and international cooperation.
Participants discussed how Viet Nam can seize opportunities in key technologies, expand its innovation ecosystem, safeguard digital sovereignty, and enable Vietnamese enterprises to move deeper into global value chains.
The event highlighted the government’s determination to place science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation at the heart of national development, laying the foundation for a modern and prosperous Viet Nam.
