NA leaders call for proactive, early and law-compliant implementation of election preparations

Working delegations of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee and the National Election Council, led by NA Vice Chairpersons, carried out supervision and inspection for preparations for the elections of deputies to the 16th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term in Thanh Hoa, An Giang and Nghe An Provinces on January 13, requesting synchronised, rigorous and law-compliant implementation, ensuring safety and quality, and promoting the people’s right to mastery.

Accordingly, Tran Quang Phuong, a member of the Party Central Committee and NA Vice Chairman, together with members of the working delegation, conducted supervision and inspection for the elections in Thanh Hoa Province.

The NA Vice Chairman requested Thanh Hoa Province to continue leading and directing the elections to comprehensively implement plans under the principle of being proactive, resolute, early and well in advance; and to organise the elections in a safe and economical manner, ensuring correct and sufficient elections and the quality of NA deputies and People’s Council deputies at all levels.

He requested the immediate establishment of polling teams, striving to complete this before January 31; the organisation of the third round of consultations and the compilation of the official list of candidates for deputies, ensuring quantity, quality, structure, composition and surplus in accordance with regulations; and the continued review, updating and supplementation of the voter list to ensure citizens’ voting rights, with voter lists to be publicly posted on February 3.

The NA Vice Chairman emphasised the need to properly organise conferences for candidates to meet voters and to exercise their right to election campaigning in accordance with the law; and to ensure political security and social order and safety in service of the elections.

Meanwhile, a working delegation led by NA Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai, conducted inspection and supervision for the elections in An Giang Province.

According to the An Giang Provincial Department of Home Affairs, the province has seven constituencies for NA deputies, 27 constituencies for provincial-level People’s Council deputies, and 774 constituencies for commune-level People’s Council deputies, in accordance with regulations.

An Giang Province has established a provincial election committee with 37 members, along with four subcommittees serving election work and seven election boards for National Assembly deputies. At 102 commune-, ward- and special zone-level people’s committees, 774 election boards for commune-level People’s Councils have been established in accordance with regulations.

Regarding the allocation of NA deputies, An Giang province is allocated 21 deputies, including 10 deputies introduced by Party Central Committee and 11 deputies residing and working in An Giang Province introduced by the province.

For the Tho Chau special zone, due to its location more than 200 km from the mainland and the need to travel by boat, which is heavily dependent on sea weather conditions, the National Election Council has agreed to allow voting to take place on March 8, 2026, seven days earlier than stipulated.

NA Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai requested Party committees and authorities at all levels in An Giang Province to continue leading and directing the organisation of the elections, ensuring rigour and compliance with statutory timelines; to proactively implement measures to ensure political security and social order and safety before, during and after the elections; to properly address complaints and denunciations; and to effectively implement measures to prevent and combat harmful and toxic information in cyberspace.

On the same day, NA Vice Chairman Tran Quang Phuong conducted supervision and inspection in Nghe An Province.

According to Hoang Nghia Hieu, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council, Nghe An is to elect 16 deputies to the 16th NA. The first consultation conference agreed to introduce 38 candidates, ensuring the surplus as prescribed.

Nghe An province has been assigned six constituencies for National Assembly deputies, with 16 deputies to be elected. The province has designated 20 constituencies, with 85 provincial People’s Council deputies to be elected.

At the commune level, localities have completed the designation of constituencies, with a total of 1,041 constituencies for commune-level People’s Council deputies, corresponding to 2,922 commune-level People’s Council deputies to be elected.

At the working session, members of the supervision delegation requested Nghe An Province to adopt measures to support people in difficult circumstances so that they can participate in voting for deputies.

They also requested ensuring absolute safety in terms of security and order across the province, especially at polling stations; paying attention to citizen reception and the resolution of petitions, complaints and denunciations; and strengthening communication and information work, with particular attention to cyberspace.

NA Vice Chairman Tran Quang Phuong requested Nghe An Province to continue leading and directing the organisation of the elections in a proactive manner, early and well in advance, and in strict accordance with the law.
