The meeting, held at the National Assembly House, formed part of the “Living forever with the nation” programme marking the 79th anniversary of Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day (July 27, 1947–2026).
Addressing the gathering, Nguyen Thi Thanh expressed profound gratitude to those who had sacrificed and contributed to Viet Nam’s struggle for national independence, reunification and peace. She said their patriotism and resilience had helped shape the nation’s strength throughout its history, adding that the Party, State and people would always remember their service.
She highlighted a message from General Secretary and State President To Lam marking the anniversary, in which he described gratitude towards those who served the nation as a longstanding moral tradition and a shared political and civic responsibility.
The Vice Chairwoman also underscored the National Assembly’s continued commitment to improving policies for revolutionary contributors. She noted that an amended Ordinance on preferential treatment for people with meritorious services to the revolution, signed by the National Assembly Chairman on July 24 and taking effect on January 1, 2027, would expand welfare benefits and simplify procedures.
Under the revised ordinance, war invalids with a disability rate of 81% or above will automatically be recognised as martyrs upon their death, while those with disabilities of between 61 and under 81% may also receive such recognition if their death is determined to have resulted from war-related injuries. The ordinance also introduces additional allowances and healthcare support for carers, alongside enhanced rehabilitation and welfare policies for beneficiaries.
