The annual organisation of the National Book Awards aims to honour books and affirm their value in social life, while also recognising, honouring, and encouraging the creativity and dedication of authors and publishing professionals. This contributes to enhancing the quality of publishing activities, developing the publishing sector, meeting the demands of national construction and development, raising public knowledge, and promoting the cultural and human values of Viet Nam.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will receive book nominations for the awards. Based on the nomination dossiers submitted by units for the eighth National Book Awards, the Secretariat will compile and classify the submissions and forward them to the Preliminary Judging Council.
The Preliminary Judging Council consists of four specialised sub-committees: Political, Economic, Social Sciences and Humanities Books; Education, Natural Sciences and Technology, Innovation Books; Culture, Literature and Arts Books; Children’s Books and a sub-committee for Readers’ Choice Books.
Nomination subjects shall be implemented in accordance with Article 6 of the National Book Awards Regulations. The receiving unit is the Office of the Viet Nam Publishing Association. The nomination period is expected to begin in August 2025.
After receiving the nominated books, the Preliminary Judging Council will score and vote on the nominated titles based on the defined criteria, and propose them to the Final Judging Council for scoring and voting. The judging period is expected to be in the third to fourth quarter of 2025.
Based on the recommendations of the Preliminary Judging Councils, the Final Judging Council will score, vote, and propose the number and level of prizes. The National Book Awards Council will then meet to conduct a secret ballot to consider and decide on the awarded books and book series and submit the results to the Minister for review and approval.
Regarding the award decision, based on the ballot results nominating the winning books, the Chairperson of the National Book Awards Council will announce the results of the eighth National Book Awards and propose the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to officially grant the awards to the winning books and book series.
In addition to the official prizes under the eighth National Book Awards system, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism will present Certificates of Merit to organisations and individuals with outstanding achievements in publishing outstanding content in specific categories (specifically: two Certificates of Merit for two book categories – books promoting distinctive Vietnamese culture and tourism, and concise, compact books; and three Certificates of Merit for three journalists with outstanding achievements in media activities, promoting reading habits, and developing a reading culture).
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requires that the organisation of the eighth National Book Awards strictly follow the procedures and regulations specified in the Statute and Rules of the National Book Awards. The eighth National Book Awards Ceremony shall be held solemnly and widely promoted before, during, and after the event to ensure strong dissemination within the community.
