Over 3,000 experts attend national congress on interventional cardiology

More than 3,000 Vietnamese and foreign cardiovascular experts gathered in Hanoi on October 25 for the fourth Vietnam National Congress of Interventional Cardiology (VNCIC 2015), a scientific event of large scale and high expertise.

VNCIC 2015 features 25 scientific sessions with 130 thematic reports presented by over 80 lecturers, many of who are the world’s leading professors and doctors in cardiology, who have made significant contributions to the establishment and development of Vietnam’s interventional cardiology over the past 20 years.

The topics discussed at the event focused on the issues of intensive expertise and high application.

The congress offers an ideal platform for Vietnamese specialists to meet, listen and exchange cardiovascular techniques with international experts, according to Prof. Dr. Pham Gia Khai, President of the Vietnam Society of Interventional Cardiology.

Alongside thematic meetings, the congress also organised a forum dedicated to the expertise of young doctors in the field.

In her speech, Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien noted that cardiovascular diseases account for 30% of deaths in Vietnam, mostly due to late intervention. Thus, interventional cardiology will be a major feature of Vietnamese cardiology and should be paid adequate attention in the future, Tien affirmed.

The health minister spoke highly of cardiovascular experts for their unceasing efforts as well as outstanding contributions to the development of Vietnam’s interventional cardiology sector over the last 20 years.

She said she hoped that after the congress, deputies would consult the Health Ministry and other relevant agencies with action plans and measures on infrastructure and human resources so that interventional cardiology would contribute to improving the treatment quality of cardiovascular diseases and reducing the mortality rate caused by them.

Tien asked the cardiology sector as a whole and the interventional cardiology field in particular to designate planning, programmes and projects on human resource training and upgrades of modern. International integration and co-operation between universities-institutes-hospitals must be developed in both intensively and extensively.

VNCIC 2015 was organised by the Vietnam Society of International Cardiology under the theme “Best solution from bed to intervention”. It was also an occasion to mark 20 years of establishment and development of the field of interventional cardiology in Vietnam. The previous editions were held in 2004, 2007 and 2009.
