The competition is being organised to translate into action the spirit of the 14th National Party Congress and Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW on the development of Vietnamese culture, with a view to building a modern, internationally integrated cultural industry and promoting the nation’s cultural soft power.
According to the Cinema Department, the competition aims to encourage creative activities, discover and nurture screenplay writers, and create a conducive environment for writers, screenwriters and directors to develop film scripts, particularly young authors.
The competition also seeks to identify and select feature film and animated film screenplays with strong ideological, content and artistic value; works that are educational, aesthetically orienting and capable of contributing to character building, moral values and healthy lifestyles, while conveying meaningful and engaging humanitarian messages to audiences.
One of the competition’s key focuses is on works serving major political tasks, particularly preparations for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (February 3, 1930–February 3, 2030).
Entries will compete in two categories: feature film screenplays and animated feature film screenplays, both with a running time of between 90 and 120 minutes.
Submitted screenplays must demonstrate ideological, content and artistic value; authentically reflect Vietnamese society and people; promote the nation’s cultural, historical and traditional values; and align with the goal of developing an advanced Vietnamese cinema imbued with national identity. Entries must be original works featuring creativity, engaging content, strong humanistic values and distinctive Vietnamese cultural characteristics.
The competition is open to Vietnamese citizens living, studying or working either in Viet Nam or abroad who possess the ability to write film screenplays.
In terms of themes, participants may adopt a wide range of approaches, focusing on topics such as national history, revolution, national leaders, cultural figures and Vietnamese national heroes, as well as the country’s achievements in national construction, defence and international integration.
The competition also encourages works portraying Vietnamese people in the new era, characterised by innovation, creativity, determination and aspirations for a prosperous and happy nation, while addressing the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values and the absorption of the finest elements of world cultures during the integration process.
Notably, the organising committee particularly welcomes works reflecting contemporary socio-cultural issues, especially those relating to adolescents, people living in highland, mountainous, border and island areas, and ethnic minority communities.
According to the plan, the competition was launched in May, with the award ceremony scheduled for late December.
Prize structures for the feature film and animation categories are equivalent. Each category will include one First Prize worth 80 million VND, two Second Prizes worth 50 million VND each and three Third Prizes worth 30 million VND each.
