Self-check-in and automated baggage drop unveiled for international-flight passengers at Noi Bai International Airport

Viet Nam Airlines passengers travelling on international flights from Terminal 2 at Noi Bai International Airport can now use self-service kiosks for check-in and automated baggage drop, delivering a more streamlined and seamless travel experience while improving airport operational efficiency.

The system is being spearheaded by Viet Nam Airlines in cooperation with Noi Bai International Airport for international-flight passengers. It marks the next step in the airline's digital transformation roadmap, designed to diversify check-in options and methodically constructing a fully integrated automated digital passenger journey from the ground to the air.

Before rolling out the service at Noi Bai International Airport, Viet Nam Airlines had successfully deployed self-check-in and self-service baggage drop at Tan Son Nhat Terminal 3, Da Nang, and Phu Bai (Hue) airports, as well as at major international airports including Changi (Singapore), Frankfurt (Germany), and Fukuoka and Nagoya (Japan). Expanding the service to northern Viet Nam's largest international gateway further reflects the airline's commitment to applying technology to enhance service quality and optimise operations.

Passengers are permitted check in via the kiosks from six hours to 60 minutes before departure and unite the automated baggage drop from three hours to 50 minutes before departure. The kiosks are located in the A-B island check-in area and at counters A01 and A02 in Terminal 2. The service is accessible to passengers with valid travel documents who do not require special assistance.

The entire process — from check-in and printing boarding passes to printing baggage tags and checking in luggage — is completed at the self-service kiosks. Passengers then attach the baggage tags themselves and proceed to the automated baggage drop. Viet Nam Airlines staff remain on hand to provide assistance whenever necessary. After completing the process, passengers can advance directly to immigration and the security screening area.

Dang Anh Tuan, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Viet Nam Airlines, stated: "The pilot deployment of the self-check-in and automated baggage drop system marks another step in Viet Nam Airlines' digital transformation journey. We aim to provide passengers with more check-in options while optimising operations and improving service quality in line with the standards of the world's leading airlines."

The introduction of the kiosk system empowers passengers to complete check-in more independently and reduces waiting times during peak hours. It also enables ground staff to focus on passengers requiring document verification, special baggage handling, or other dedicated services, thereby improving service quality at the terminal.

Viet Nam Airlines will rigorously evaluate the pilot before expanding the self-check-in and automated baggage drop service to more domestic and international airports. The initiative underscores the airline's customer-centric approach and commitment to comprehensive digital transformation. Viet Nam Airlines is recognised as a five-star airline by APEX for customer experience and has garnered prestigious accolades for digital transformation.
