In his opening remarks, Nguyen Quoc Hung, Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Banks Association (VNBA), noted that in recent years Viet Nam has witnessed the strong development of the digital financial services ecosystem, the expansion of cashless payments, and the emergence of digital banking as the dominant channel.

Most basic banking services have now been digitised, with many core operations, such as savings deposits, current account opening, card issuance, money transfers, and lending, fully digital.

To date, nearly 87% of Vietnamese adults hold a bank account, and the value of cashless payments is 25 times the country’s GDP.

Hung stated that this year’s event aims to promote a sustainable digital banking ecosystem – innovative yet safe, fast yet standardised, personalised yet secure, and open to connectivity yet tightly controlled for systemic risks.

He stressed that the principle of customer centricity must be reflected in value, experience, security, and trust, rather than remain a slogan.

Pham Tien Dung, Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Viet Nam, noted that to truly put customers at the centre, banks need to develop highly integrated, intelligent applications that directly connect to the national population database.

As of June 13, the banking sector had more than 117 million customer information files verified through biometric matching with chip-mounted ID cards or the identification app VNeID, covering nearly 100% of individual payment accounts conducting transactions on digital channels.
