Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam made the request at a ceremony held in Hanoi on October 6 by the USSH to celebrate its 70th traditional day (1945-2015) and to receive the Labour Order, first class, for the second time.
The Deputy PM took this occasion to express his gratitude to the teachers, scientists and managers working in the fields of social sciences and humanities for their contributions to the country’s academic development.
He stressed that lecturers, scientists and students of social sciences and humanities have made direct contributions to cultivating and developing Vietnamese culture and society.
He asked the USSH to continue encouraging Vietnamese people to study and follow President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example and to be a place where talents and creativity are appreciated and developed.
He ordered the Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education and Training to co-ordinate with relevant ministries and sectors to devise and promulgate appropriate policies to develop Vietnam’s universities and the country’s social sciences and humanities sectors.
On behalf of the Party and State, Deputy PM Dam presented the Labour order, first class to the USSH, marking the second time the university has been honoured with the accolade.
The USSH was established under a decree signed by President Ho Chi Minh on October 10, 1945. Over the past seven decades, the university has trained tens of thousands of students in bachelors, masters and doctoral programs, and taught the Vietnamese language to over 5,000 foreign students.
The university has made significant progress in both quality and quantity, while its scientific research has also made considerable achievements.
