This is the first educational institution in Vietnam to be internationally recognised for applying and operating the system.
Since receiving approval from the Son La Provincial People's Committee to upgrade and apply the IMS (QMS ISO 9001: 2015 and EOMS ISO 21001: 2018), the Son La Department of Education and Training has issued documents directing specialised departments, officials and civil servants in the agency to implement the tasks of building and operating the IMS according to international standards.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huy Hoang, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Son La Province, said that the Department of Education and Training has coordinated with the Institute for Quality Assessment and Development (Ho Chi Minh City), which is a consulting unit regarding the implementation of training and transferring services on ISO work (QMS ISO 9001:2015 and EOMS ISO 21001: 2018) for the Department of Education and Training.
From August 24 to September 30, 2020, Son La Department of Education and Training organised four training sessions on ISO work for officials, employees of the Department of Education and Training, and a number of key officials of affiliated units.
Building and applying the IMS (QMS ISO 9001: 2015 and EOMS ISO 21001: 2018) is a breakthrough in the educational quality management process. The system helps guide the development of comprehensive quality education, ensuring equal access and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for learners. Quality management activities are clearly defined by specific procedures and actions.
Vice Chairman of Son La Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Cong said that the application of IMS into educational management in Son La has brought certain initial effectiveness. The quality of education and training in the whole province is gradually developing while the prestige and image of the education sector among the people has been gradually consolidated.
Dr. Ngo Van Nhon, Director of the Institute for Quality Assessment and Development (Ho Chi Minh City), Chairman of the Vietnam Quality Association of Ho Chi Minh City, added that there are currently only 32 educational institutions in Asia certified with ISO 21001:2018 in the field of education and training services, including schools, academies, institutes, and educational centres.
However, only 27 organisations have been certified with IMS certification ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 21001:2018, including Vietnam's Department of Education and Training of Son La Province.
