This meaningful cultural event is the first festival held since the province was merged.
In 2014, the Tran Temple Festival was inscribed on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage list, while the complex was recognised as a Special National Relic Site, affirming the great value of the heritage to the nation’s history and cultural life.
The Tran Temple Festival takes place from March 1 to 5, 2026 (from the 13th to the 17th day of the first lunar month), honouring and reaffirming the merits of the Tran Dynasty in nation-building throughout Viet Nam’s history.
In previous years, the festival featured a range of distinctive activities, including the offering ceremony; a water procession by river and road; and competitions in preparing fish dishes, wrapping banh chung (square sticky rice cakes), kite flying, “dat” firecracker throwing, ball wrestling, and tug of war.
In recent years, the festival has incorporated new cultural elements such as exchanges among ca tru clubs; open and traditional wrestling tournaments; Viet Nam Poetry Day; a calligraphy contest; and exhibitions of OCOP products, traditional handicrafts, and the province’s signature specialties.
In his opening remarks, Pham Quang Ngoc, Member of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of the Hung Yen Provincial People’s Committee, emphasised that the Tran Dynasty holds a particularly important place in the course of building and safeguarding the nation, standing as a brilliant symbol of independence, self-reliance, and the aspiration for prosperity of Dai Viet.
The 2026 opening ceremony featured an art programme themed “Radiant Heritage of the Tran Dynasty – Brilliantly Welcoming a New Era.” The programme brought together more than 200 professional and amateur performers, including renowned artists as well as performers from the Viet Nam Contemporary Art Theatre and the Hung Yen Cheo Theatre.
