This is a large-scale annual community cultural event aimed at preserving and promoting national identity among the more than 634,000 Vietnamese people living, studying, and working in Japan, as well as among international friends.
In recent years, Tet Viet in Japan has become a familiar cultural meeting place, drawing attention from local authorities and partner organisations.
At the 2025 opening ceremony, the event had the honour of welcoming Nakano Hiromasa, Japan’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism; Ngo Trinh Ha, Viet Nam’s Consul General to Osaka; and Mayor of Amagasaki Matsumoto Shin; along with representatives of various Japanese organisations and enterprises.
The presence of high-ranking delegates reflects the importance placed on the Vietnamese community and affirms Tet Viet’s role as a bridge fostering people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
With the theme “Viet Nam Radiant”, Tet Viet 2026 highlights the spirit of remembering one’s roots, preserving traditions and honouring the contributions of overseas Vietnamese in the context of international integration.
The festival space is designed to harmoniously blend tradition and modernity, offering Japanese and international visitors a vivid experience of Viet Nam’s traditional Tet.
A wide array of distinctive cultural activities will be featured, including folk art performances; folk games; a Tet culinary zone with banh chung (sticky rice cake), pho (Vietnamese noodle), bun cha (grilled pork served with rice vermicelli and dipping sauce), and com tam (broken rice served with grilled pork and assorted sides); as well as exhibitions of ao dai (traditional Vietnamese long dress), conical hats, and silk products. Through these activities, Tet Viet becomes a place that brings the community together, nurtures solidarity, and promotes the image of Viet Nam and its people.
This year’s festival will once again host the Tet Viet Talent – Vietnamese Talents 2026 competition, providing an artistic playground for Vietnamese and international participants in Japan across various fields such as music, dance, painting, martial arts, fashion, storytelling, and calligraphy. The programme aims to inspire creativity, promote cultural exchange, and honour young talents within the community.
With meticulous preparation and an increasingly expanding scale, Tet Viet 2026 in Osaka continues to affirm its position as a major cultural event for the Vietnamese community in Japan, contributing to deepening the Viet Nam–Japan friendship and spreading the beautiful values of Vietnamese tradition to international friends.
