Vietnam sees 6.1 million domestic tourists during Lunar New Year 2022

The tourism industry has seen positive signs in the first days of the Lunar New Year, with the welcome of 6.1 million domestic tourists, during the nine days of Tet holiday.

With the reception of 6.1 million tourists, including 3.2 million staying overnight at tourist accommodation facilities nationwide, the tourism industry estimated to earn a total turnover of 25 trillion VND (1.1 billion USD).

The number of domestic tourists during the nine days of Tet holiday exceeded the total number of tourists in December 2021 (5.2 million arrivals) and was not much less than the number of domestic tourists in January 2020 (7.3 million arrivals), the time before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tay Ninh province reported the largest number of visitors, with nearly 600,000 travellers during Tet, with a room occupancy of about 65%. It was followed by Ba Ria – Vung Tau with 420,000 visitors and Lam Dong with about 300,000 visitors.

The three major tourist centres of Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Da Nang, were also bustling with tourists. Ho Chi Minh City welcomed about 280,000 tourists, while Hanoi received over 105,000 tourists and Da Nang saw approximately 35,000 visitors.

Sea and island resorts attracted a large number of domestic tourists, during the Tet holiday this year. Kien Giang province welcomed about 98,000 visitors, KhanhHoa province received more than 98,600, while Phu Quoc welcomed 79,000 visitors.

The significant figures of the tourism industry in the first days of the Lunar New Year 2022, have opened up the prospect of a positive recovery for the tourism industry in 2022, towards safe opening of international tourism.
