Dr Tran Van Mieu, writer and Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Association for the Conservation of Nature and Environment, announced the official decision recognising twelve ancient trees as Viet Nam Heritage Trees.
Speaking at the event, Professor Dr of Science Dang Huy Huynh, Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Association for the Conservation of Nature and Environment, Chairman of the Viet Nam Heritage Tree Council and ASEAN Biodiversity Hero, affirmed: “The evaluation and recognition of Viet Nam Heritage Trees are based on scientific, humanitarian, historical and cultural criteria.
“The recognition of eleven ruoi trees and one gon tree at SenNa as Viet Nam Heritage Trees is not only a source of pride for the enterprise but also contributes to the development of eco-tourism, nature conservation and biodiversity, while educating younger generations about environmental values and tradition,” Professor Dang Huy Huynh emphasised.
The Professor added that more than 8,500 trees across the country have been recognised as Viet Nam Heritage Trees, located in 34 provinces, from high mountain peaks to remote islands, including three heritage trees on Truong Sa Island, reflecting both ecological and historical value linked to national sovereignty.
At the recognition ceremony, Nguyen Thi Hai, Vice Chairwoman of the Vu Ninh Ward People’s Committee, stated that recognising the cluster of eleven ruoi trees and one gon tree—aged between 200 and 500 years—as Viet Nam Heritage Trees not only acknowledges their historical, cultural and environmental value but also affirms the responsibility of local authorities and residents in preserving and promoting these precious heritage assets.
