The programme was implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Gia Lai Provincial Red Cross and local authorities.
The assistance was funded by the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to help local residents stabilise and restore their lives in the aftermath of disasters.
Specifically, 1,920 households in seven communes and wards received cash assistance for multiple purposes such as food and healthcare, while 280 households received housing repair support to ensure safe living conditions and reduce risks from future natural disasters.
Another 1,000 households received kits of essential household items.
Speaking at the event, Gia Lai Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich said, “This is a timely and meaningful assistance programme that helps poor and near-poor households affected by storms and floods in Gia Lai Province access financial resources and essential items to restore their homes and livelihoods.”
She added that the support received ahead of the Lunar New Year would enable beneficiaries to purchase necessities, complete home repairs, and celebrate Tet with peace of mind.
According to Francesca Nardini, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Viet Nam, through multi-purpose cash assistance, households are empowered to meet their most urgent needs, noting that safe and stable housing is a cornerstone of recovery.
