Viet Nam approves adjustments to national railway network plan to 2050

Under the revised plan, the scope of two existing railway lines — Ha Noi-Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi-Lao Cai — will be adjusted. The Ha Noi-Hai Phong line segment from Hai Phong Station to Chua Ve Port will be converted once Vat Cach Station is completed and put into operation.

Regarding new railway lines, the plan updates the name, scale, and investment roadmap of the North-South high-speed railway, while adding a Ha Noi-Quang Ninh high-speed line.

The Lao Cai-Ha Noi-Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City-Loc Ninh lines will be adjusted, and investment schedules will be adjusted for three other routes: Ha Noi-Dong Dang, Hai Phong-Ha Long-Mong Cai, and Thap Cham-Da Lat.

The plan also revises the scope and scale of seven other routes, including Yen Vien-Pha Lai-Ha Long-Cai Lan, the eastern ring line of Ha Noi, Nam Dinh-Thai Binh-Hai Phong, Vung Ang-Mu Gia, Bien Hoa-Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City-Can Tho-Ca Mau, and Da Nang-Kon Tum-Gia Lai-Dak Lak-Dak Nong-Binh Phuoc.

The Thu Thiem-Long Thanh line will be removed from the plan and converted into an urban railway. Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province are tasked with incorporating this change into their provincial and related plans.

A new An Binh-Sai Gon (Hoa Hung)-Tan Kien railway line will also be added.

The revised plan strengthens international connectivity, adding a link to the Chinese railway system at Mong Cai Border Gate via the Hai Phong-Ha Long-Mong Cai line, and a link to Cambodia at Moc Bai Border Gate via the Ho Chi Minh City-Tay Ninh line.

In addition, the plan adjusts orientations for rail connections to key transport hubs, including the Nghi Son and Hiep Phuoc seaports, the Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh international airports, the second international airport of Ha Noi, Gia Binh International Airport, and the inland ports of Van Lam (Hung Yen) and Gia Binh (Bac Ninh).
