Viet Nam sees strong export prospects in Brazilian market

A seminar titled “Export prospects in the Brazilian market – opportunities and challenges for Vietnamese enterprises” was organised by the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) in coordination with the Viet Nam Trade Office in Brazil on April 21, providing businesses with insights to expand exports to this key Latin American market.

The event aims to support businesses in Ho Chi Minh City in accessing market information, seeking partners and expanding exports to new and potential markets. It also helps enterprises stay updated on important information and key considerations when exporting goods to Brazil.

At the seminar, experts noted that Brazil is currently Viet Nam’s largest trading partner in Latin America, while Viet Nam is also one of Brazil’s leading partners in Southeast Asia.

Le Anh Hoang, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre, speaks at the seminar.

Bilateral trade turnover has maintained strong growth momentum, reaching approximately 8 billion USD in 2025, of which Viet Nam’s exports to Brazil accounted for around 2.7 billion USD.

The two countries aim to raise bilateral trade to 15 billion USD by 2030, opening up a promising new phase of economic cooperation.

Le Anh Hoang, ITPC Deputy Director, stated that Brazil, as the largest economy in Latin America with over 200 million people, is a dynamic market with strong purchasing power and limited direct impact from global tensions.

As the country’s economic hub, contributing 21% of the nation’s total export turnover, Ho Chi Minh City is committed to supporting businesses in enhancing competitiveness and exploring new growth opportunities, according to Hoang.

To realise this goal, ITPC will organise a business delegation to participate directly in the APAS Show—one of the largest specialised events in the food and retail sector in the region—taking place from May 18 to 21 in Brazil. This is expected to create momentum for Vietnamese products to penetrate more deeply into Brazil’s domestic distribution system.

Meanwhile, Pham Hong Trang, Trade Counsellor of Viet Nam in Brazil, emphasised that Brazil is not only a large consumer market but also serves as a strategic gateway for Vietnamese goods to access the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR).

She highlighted significant growth potential in Viet Nam’s key export sectors such as seafood, processed foods, textiles and garments, and electronic components. However, Vietnamese exporters also need to be cautious of the country’s stringent technical barriers and trade defence measures.

Analysing the behaviour of local buyers, Dionathan Santos, Executive President of the Brazil–Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce (BVC), pointed to the strong appeal of the world’s eighth-largest market, with a GDP of 2.4 trillion USD.

He also recommended that Vietnamese exporters use Brazil’s public government databases to verify partners’ legal status and begin with small-scale orders to gradually explore the market.
