Viet Nam, Thailand discuss ways to boost cooperation in competition, consumer protection

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT)’s Viet Nam Competition Commission (VCC) held a working session with a delegation from the Thai Senate in Ha Noi on September 26 to share insights on competition and consumer protection policies.

Norasate Prachyakorn, Chairman of the Thai Senate Committee on Political Development, Public Participation, Human Rights, Rights, Liberties and Consumer Protection, said as Thailand and Viet Nam share similarities, enhanced cooperation and information exchange would improve legal enforcement of competition and consumer rights protection in both nations.

A VCC representative outlined the commission’s mandate, which includes monitoring markets to curb anti-competitive practices and consumer rights violations, running public campaigns to promote fair competition, raising awareness about consumer protection, providing training, and enforcing relevant laws.

VCC Chairman Trinh Anh Tuan mentioned Viet Nam’s regulatory framework, highlighting the Competition Law and the Law on Consumer Rights Protection as key pillars. He also answered questions and clarified issues raised by the guests.

Phan The Thang, Deputy Director of the VCC’s Consumer Protection Division, provided an overview of Viet Nam’s Law on Consumer Rights Protection and activities of enforcement agencies focused on safeguarding consumer interests.
