The congress was organised by the Vietnam National Heart Association, attracting the participation of more than 2,000 domestic and foreign professors, doctors, pharmacists, and cardiologists from the US, France, Japan, China, Singapore, and Thailand.
Nearly 1,000 reports and research projects by leading heart experts on updated issues related to cardiovascular diseases and hypertension were presented at the congress.
Prof.Pham Gia Khai, President of the Vietnam National Heart Association said that cardiovascular diseases have become a threat to many countries in the world, particularly developing countries including Vietnam.
The congress is a good opportunity for Vietnamese professors and doctors to access and update the latest knowledge in the field as well as have direct talks with world renowned heart experts to reduce heart-related diseases and mortality.
About 20% of Vietnamese population will suffer from cardiovascular diseases and hypertension by 2017 and 25% of Vietnamese people aged 25 and older are currently suffering hypertension, according to the Vietnam National Heart Association.
Other activities organised as part of the congress included 'Walk for a Healthy Cardiology Community' on October 11, free heart and blood pressure check-ups and free medicine for ethnic minorities in Hoa Bac commune, Da Nang along with forums and talks with experts providing people with knowledge to understand and prevent cardiovascular diseases.
Today (October 13), cases of cardiac catheterisation at Da Nang Hospital will be broadcast live for delegates at the congress to monitor and give professional advice.
The congress will conclude on October 14.
