Vietnam welcomes first babies born in Year of the Buffalo

After the clock struck midnight, many babies dubbed “golden buffaloes” were born healthy at major obstetrics hospitals in Hanoi.

At the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the first baby was a 2.9-kilogram boy born to a couple in Ha Dong District, known by their initials T.T.Th and N.V.D. He is the couple’s second child.

Another baby born at about the same time is the daughter of a woman from Ninh Binh Province.

Embracing the child, her grand-mother said she was happy that the birth was successful and expressed her sincere thanks to the hospital for helping with the delivery.

Associate Professor Tran Danh Cuong, director of the hospital, said that he expects that a healthy baby boy born at the start of the Year of the Buffalo will bring good luck and health to the entire hospital and the country at large.

At the Hanoi Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, a Hanoian mother known as T.T.T gave birth to a healthy girl weighing 3 kilograms just three minutes into the new year.

Two minutes later, another girl, weighing 2.9kg, was born to a mother from Hung Yen Province.
