Vietnamese films to be screened free on major holidays

Five Vietnamese films will be screened for free at cinemas across the country from April 24 to May 20 to mark the major public holidays, according to the Cinema Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The five films include feature film ‘Song cung lich su’ (Living with history) directed by People’s Artist Nguyen Thanh Van; three documentaries of ‘Chuyen nhung nguoi linh gia’ (The story of old soldiers) directed by Duong Ngoc Hoa, ‘Song Gianhthuongnho’ (Beloved Gianh River) directed by Dao Duc Thanh, and ‘Song giua yeu thuong’ (Living in love) directed by Phan Huynh Trang and animation ‘Truyen thuyet chiec khan Pieu’ (Legend of Pieu scarf).

The opening ceremony for the film screenings will take place at 19:30 on April 24 at the Dien Bien Phu Cinema in the northern province of Dien Bien.

On the occasion, the film crew of ‘Thach thao” directed by Mai The Hiep and ‘Chuyen nhung nguoi linh gia’ will hold exchanges with officials and soldiers of Infantry Regiment 82 under the Military Zone 2 on April 25, and teachers and students of the Boarding School of ethnic minority students in Dien Bien province on April 26.

The film screenings are to be held to mark the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30), May Day (May 1), the 129th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19) and the 65th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7).
