The information was announced on April 17 after an assessment showed that main control functions of Vietnam’s National Regulatory Authorities (NRA) achieved an average score of over 90%.
Belghabi said the assessment was made by 14 WHO specialists over two weeks on the NRA system’s critical functions such as surveillance of vaccine field performance, regular inspections for good manufacturing practice and evaluation of clinical performance.
Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said the WHO certification came from the efforts of four agencies − the Drug Administration of Vietnam, the General Department of Preventive Medicine, the Administration of Science and Technology and Training and the National Institute for Control of Vaccine and Biological Products.
He said that not many vaccine producing countries pass the assessment for the first time like Vietnam, adding that it will open the window for Vietnam to export its vaccines.
