Speaking at the event, Associate Professor Dr Nguyen Trung Minh, Director General of the Viet Nam National Museum of Nature, emphasised that the project to prepare the site and build infrastructure for the museum holds special significance not only for the development of the national network of natural history museums, but also for contributing to the socio-economic development of the local area.

He noted that the project is far more than a conventional construction initiative serving scientific research, specimen storage and preservation, or the dissemination of Viet Nam’s natural heritage values to the public and the world. It is a strategic undertaking with long-term implications for scientific development, conservation and museology, while also creating opportunities to advance scientific progress and promote sustainable regional development.

“As the project’s investor, the Viet Nam National Museum of Nature is committed to working closely with contractors and competent authorities to ensure progress, quality, labour safety and strict compliance with environmental protection regulations,” Associate Professor Dr Nguyen Trung Minh stressed.

The project covers approximately 2.89 hectares, including site levelling; construction of a three-storey thematic exhibition building (a Grade I structure) with a total floor area of 1,295 square metres to serve as the core exhibition space in the initial phase; and construction of Class III technical infrastructure such as a 399m main road, an 18m slab bridge, a guardhouse, a parking area and various auxiliary systems.

On behalf of the VAST leadership, Professor Dr Tran Tuan Anh, Vice President of the Academy and Head of the Steering Committee for the Viet Nam National Museum of Nature system, affirmed that building the museum is one of VAST’s strategic tasks, as defined in the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 86/2006/QD-TTg and subsequent directives. He described the museum as an important scientific, cultural and educational institution within the national system for research and conservation of natural heritage.

Professor Dr Tran Tuan Anh emphasised that once the project components are completed, they will lay the foundation for thematic exhibitions, specimen preservation, and scientific research on biodiversity, geology and the environment, while also creating a meaningful space for community education. He added that VAST will continue to accompany, closely direct and provide maximum support to ensure the project’s effective implementation.
