Cultural and sports exchange held for Vietnamese and Lao police forces

A cultural and sports exchange programme for police forces from 10 Vietnamese and Lao provinces kicked off in Dien Bien Province on August 5 to mark the 60th anniversary of Vietnam – Laos diplomatic ties.

The three-day programme has attracted nearly 300 athletes from the 10 delegations of 10 localities, including the provinces of Dien Bien, Son La and Thanh Hoa in Vietnam and the provinces of Phongsali, Luang Prabang, Oudomxay, Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Xayaboury and Houaphanh in Laos.

They will participate in a football tourney, martial arts performances, and arts exchanges.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Colonel Ngo Thanh Binh, Director of the Dien Bien Provincial Department of Public Security, emphasised that the close relationship and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos has laid a solid foundation for building a prosperous, peaceful and happy life for the peoples of the two countries.

He affirmed the significant contribution made by the police forces, including those from border provinces of the two countries, in nurturing and fostering the special bilateral ties.

He stressed that the Dien Bien provincial police have paid great attention to maintaining comprehensive cooperation with colleagues in Laos’ northern provinces.

He reported that in the first six months of 2022, the two sides inked six documents on ensuring security and order in the border areas and local territories.
