In a document issued on February 20, the city’s People’s Committee acknowledged that the Covid-19 outbreak has caused certain difficulties in the supply of materials for the festival.
The cancellation of the festival also aimed to limit the gathering of large numbers of people, thus preventing and controlling the spread of Covid-19 in the city.
The event was held for the first time in 2008 and was formerly known as the Da Nang International Fireworks Competition. From 2017, the annual event has become a two-month festival in order to lure more visitors to the city.
Over its 10 editions, it has established itself as an attractive tourist product of Da Nang City, contributing to boosting cultural exchange and inviting many foreign tourists to Da Nang and Vietnam in general.
The Da Nang International Fireworks Festival was voted one of the 10 most impressive cultural events of 2018 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
