Compared with previous editions, the most notable highlight lies in an unprecedented mechanical system.
For the first time, a giant lifting dome spanning over 40 metres in width and more than 10 metres in height will be put into operation as the central axis of the stage. In addition, five independent or synchronised mechanical dome systems will create continuously transforming spatial layers.
With impressive operating speeds, the central domes can complete their movement in under 70 seconds, allowing the stage to transition scenes seamlessly in real time.
According to the organisers, the mechanical structure is accompanied by a significant advancement in performance technology, combining advanced programming systems, high-powered lasers and a 3D LED matrix system, together with Retro Amber lighting to create a modern spatial effect and depict “luminous horizons”.
The organisers believe that the integration of lighting, visual displays and mechanical movement will transform the entire stage into a “living entity”, capable of continuous transformation in sync with each performance, delivering a multi-layered visual experience for audiences.
Sharing further details, the organisers said the DIFF 2026 stage, under the theme “Da Nang – United Horizons”, is designed based on the concept of a “convergence crossroads”, inspired by an imagined moment when the Earth slows its rotation and horizons draw closer together. In that moment, boundaries dissolve, giving way to an intersection of cultures, time, and emotions.
The design language is expressed through three spatial layers, with curved lines evoking connecting bridges. At the highest layer, an expanding illuminated dome symbolises aspiration and an ever-reaching mindset. Below, reflective water surfaces retain soft streaks of light, adding emotional depth and highlighting the dialogue between tradition and modernity.
