The performances are organised by the Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO), continuing its mission of bringing world-class international performing arts closer to Vietnamese audiences.
Licensed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the programme is being presented through a collaboration between the Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) and the Viet Nam National Music, Song and Dance Theatre, further advancing the efforts to introduce outstanding international artistic productions to Viet Nam.
“Eugene Onegin” is a ballet adaptation choreographed by Boris Eifman, the artistic director and choreographer of the Eifman Ballet, based on the verse novel of the same name by the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin.
Since premiering in St Petersburg on March 3, 2009, the production has toured more than 40 countries and has been acclaimed by international critics as one of the finest contemporary ballet works of the 21st century.
The creative team brings together some of the industry's leading talents. The stage design is by Zinovy Margolin, costumes are created by Olga Shaishmelashvili, Pyotr Okunev, and Anna Yakushchenko, while lighting design is by Gleb Filshtinsky, with Boris Eifman himself overseeing the overall artistic vision. The score combines the classical music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky with the modern rock compositions of Alexander Sitkovetsky, creating a bold and innovative auditory experience that breaks down the boundaries between classical and contemporary art.
The production will be staged in Ho Chi Minh City from October 21 to 24 and in Ha Noi from October 28 to 31.
