The 2016 World Travel Awards Asia (WTA) & Australasia Gala Ceremony saw the participation of over 200 guests from airlines, hotels, resorts and travel agencies in the region, as well as domestic and foreign press agencies.
The luxurious five-star Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, which hosted the event, was given the titles of “Asia’s Leading Luxury Resort” and “World’s Leading Luxury Resort” from the WTA in 2013 and 2015, respectively.
This year’s WTA included many nominations in the tourism industry, such as airlines, hotels, resorts, travel agencies, transport services, cruises and destinations.
The city has also three businesses listed in the nominations, including the Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, the Vinpearl Danang Resort & Villas and Vietravel.
In recent years, the municipal authorities and tourism sector have paid special attention to investing in infrastructure for tourism and developing resort tourism and conference tourism services.
Da Nang is famous for its amazingly beautiful destinations, especially beaches. Visitors may admire the natural wonders of Ba Na Hills; do some jungle exploration on Son Tra Peninsula; pray at Linh Ung Pagoda with Vietnam’s tallest Bodhisattva Statue (with a height of 67 metres); and visit the Museum of Cham Sculpture, where the antique statues of Cham culture are preserved and exhibited.
Initiated in 1993, the WTA was annually held to honour the best service suppliers in travel and tourism. Its awards are considered the “Oscar awards” of the tourism industry.
