Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Linh Ngoc delivered the opening remarks.

The forum was organised by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and attended by various ministries, agencies and members of the business community.

Major topics for discussion at the forum included the green economy and environmental protection in Vietnam, the advantages and disadvantages of promoting the green economy in Vietnam, green banking and the role of the media in promoting sustainable development.

In his opening speech, MONRE Deputy Minister Nguyen Linh Ngoc said the forum’s aim was to popularise policies and laws on sustainable development while raising public awareness of environmental protection measures and the efficient utilisation of natural resources.

According to Dr Nguyen The Chinh from the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment, Vietnam needs to change its growth model in order to achieve the targets of a green economy.

He added that if Vietnam can tap into its natural potential and overcome current challenges, it will not only meet green targets, but also narrow the development gap with other countries.
