The Bac Tu Liem district has an area of 4,335 hectares and a population of nearly 320,000. The district comprises of 13 wards including Thuong Cat, Lien Mac, Thuy Phuong, Minh Khai, Tay Tuu, Dong Ngac, Duc Thang, Xuan Dinh, Xuan Tao, Co Nhue 1, Co Nhue 2, Phuc Dien and Phu Dien.
The Nam Tu Liem district covers 3,227 hectares and has a population of 233,000. It includes ten wards: Trung Van, Dai Mo, Tay Mo, Me Tri, Phu Do, My Dinh 1, My Dinh 2, Cau Dien, Phuong Canh and Xuan Phuong.
After the adjustment of Tu Liem district, Hanoi city has an area of over 334,000 hectares, around 7.2 million people, and 30 districts, suburban districts and towns (12 districts, one town and 17 suburban districts).
Director of the Municipal Department of Home Affairs, Tran Huy Sang affirmed that the adjustment of the boundary of Tu Liem district into two districts and 23 wards is a necessity, deriving from the aspirations of local people, the Party's Committee and authorities of Tu Liem district and the adjustment project has been ongoing for many years.
He noted that the two new districts are located on the north and south of the national highway 32, saying that the division ensures the similarity of socio-economic development between the two districts and facilitates the implementation of administrative transactions in the two districts.
