According to the organisers, the festival is a cultural event honouring Vietnamese and foreign cinematic works of high artistic and human values with outstanding creative marks.
The event is also designed to discover and honour new cinematic talents, introduce outstanding works of cinemas around the world, and promote cooperation for mutual development in the field of cinema.
According to Vi Kien Thanh, Director of the Vietnam Cinema Department, among the 117 films featured at HANIFF 2024, there are 10 feature-length films and 19 short films.
Vietnam’s representative in the feature-length category is “Once Upon A Time There Was A Love Story” by director Trinh Dinh Le Minh.
Thanh added that the film festival is expected to welcome 800 Vietnamese and foreign delegates, with the opening and closing ceremonies to be held at the Ho Guom Opera House.
During the festival, films will be screened at three locations, namely the National Cinema Centre on Lang Ha Street, BHD Star Cineplex Pham Ngoc Thach and CGV Mipec Tower Tay Son.
Besides film screenings, there will be other activities, including an exhibition on Vietnam’s UNESCO heritages through the cinematic lens, two workshops on German cinema and films based on history and adapted from literary works.
