Seven authors and groups of authors won particular outstanding works of literature and arts, contributing to the cause of socialist construction and national defence,including People’s Artist Dr. Le Ngoc Canh; People’s Artist Chu Thuy Quynh, Dr. Tran Dinh Ngon; stage expert Mich Quang; People’s Teacher Prof. Trong Bang; Dr. Doan Nho; and associate professor and composer Chu Minh.
The Ho Chi Minh Awards will also be posthumously bestowed upon the late writer Nguyen Xuan Thieu, the late writer Tran Huu Mai and the late composer Hoang Ha.
In addition, 56 State Awards for Literature and the Arts will be presented to director and People’s Artist Nhue Giang; poet Tran Quang Quy; playwright Chu Thom; Director of the Department of Performing Arts Nguyen Dang Thom; writer Duong Huong; People’s Artist Tran The Dan; film director Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan; director andPeople’s Artist Dao Ba Son; poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, composer Van Thanh Nho; People’s Artist, Director Nguyen Phuong Hoa; People’s Artist and Director Nguyen Ha Bac, among others.
Held for the first time in 1996, the Ho Chi Minh Awards, the State Awards for Literature and the Arts and the titles of People’s Artist and Meritorious Artist are presented to writers and artists who have made important contributions to the country’s cultural development.
An awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on March 11.
